MARTINBOROUGH
MAORI CONCERT ENJOYABLE ENTERTAINMENT. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance at the Maori Concert held last evening in the Town Hall. A very enjoyable programme was provided by the Papawai and Pirinoa Maoris.(The items included poi and canoe dancing. hakas and songs which were enthusiastically received by those present. Solos, songs and dances were also a part of the programme. At the conclusion of the concert, Mr Manihera, on behalf of the party, thanked the audience for their much appreciated patronage. Mr Perry also spoke a few words and drew attention to the final concert which is to be held in the Masterton Opera House early next month. WORTHY SETTLERS TENDERED FAREWELL SOCIAL. At the Dyerville Hall on Tuesday night, the residents of Dyerville tendered a social to two of the original settlers, Mr and Mrs W. Waugh, who have retired from farming and who are to reside in Martinborough. In making the presentation of a rug, tea service and fountain pen to their guests, Mr Campbell Smith spoke in the highest terms of the esteem in which Mr and Mrs Waugh were held by all and said that they would be greatly missed in the district. Mrs A. Jameson, on behalf of the Dyerville Women’s Institute, presented Mrs Waugh, their first president, with a reading lamp and expressed the gratitude of members for all that Mrs Waugh had done for the institute. The function closed with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and hearty cheers.
