CARTERTON

EKETAHUNA DEFEATED IN MINIATURE RIFLES MATCH. (“Times-Age” Special.) A match was fired on the Eketahuna range last evening between the CarterA ton and Eketahuna miniature rifle C*' k leams, 15 a-side. The range was 'strange to the Carterton shooters, being a two-target one on the tube system. The visit was more or less an outing for the younger shots of the club, several of whom are this year’s shooters. At the conclusion of the match the visitors were hospitably entertained at supper which was much enjoyed. Carterton won by a fair margin of points. Before dispersing Mr C. J. de Lacey thanked the Eketahuna club for their hospitality and for having provided an enjoyable time. He extended a hearty invitation to the home team to visit Carterton. Mr W. Hornblow acknowledged the compliments paid to his club and assured Carterton that his club would return the visit on Tuesday, September 12. L. Robinson, and F. C. Yule. As the nominations do not exceed the vacancies to be filled an election will not be necessary, and the above will be elected to office at the annual meeting tomorrow. FIRE BRIGADE BALL UNIFORM FUND APPEAL. Every Carterton citizen should assist the appeal that is being made by a strong ladies' committee to assist the Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade in providing funds for the purchase of new uniforms for the firemen. The Carterton Fire Brigade for many years past has been very successful at the Fire Brigade demonstrations held all over New Zealand and today the Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade ranks as the champion brigade of New Zealand. Citizens should, therefore, attend in large numbers and make the ball on Monday night a decided success. Personal Items. Mr J. G. Stevens, of Wellington, is L * fc the guest of his son-in-law, Mr S. Hill. Wakelin Street. Mr All' V. Tunnicliffe, of Whakarewarewa, Rotorua, is staying with his brothers and sisters at Dalefield on a health recruiting holiday. Hockey Team. Mr Cliff Webster will be the preacher at the Presbyterian Church on Sunday and at West Taratahi in the afternoon. A Worthy Object. Tonight in the Parkvale Hall a plain and fancy dress dance will be held, the purpose of which is to raise funds to instal a wireless at the Parkvale State School. Considerable preparation has been made to make the function a very enjoyable and successful one. The ladies of the district have spared no . pains in the preparation of fancy dresses for the event and the Hall at Parkvale tonight should bear a very festive appearance. As well as fancy I dresses masks will also be worn. There will be novelty dances, the music, floor | and supper will be of the best and everyone can look forward to a very enjoyable time.
