Mr G. T. Scales has been re-elected a director of the Mangahao Cheese Company. Mr Shalloon, of Auckland, is on a visit to Masterton and is staying at the Hotel Midland.
Mr J. W. Stitt, overseer. P. and 1. Department, Masterton, has received notice of his promotion to the Wellington office. Guests at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton, include Messrs S. Allen (Hawke’s Bay) and Odlun (Wellington).
Mr F. C. Carpenter, who has been on exchange to New Zealand in place of the chief inspector of aircraft, Mr R. C. Kean, left Auckland on return to England by the Rangitata yesterday. Sympathy with Mr G. G. Hancox, Principal of Wairarapa College, in his illness was expressed at last night's meeting of the Board of Governors. It was decided to forward a letter to Mr Hancox expressing the board’s sympathy and wishes for a speedy recovery.
Mr S. Mills, a member of the teaching staff of the Wairarapa College, who has been appointed to a position on the Hawera Technical School staff, tendered his resignation to the Board of Governors at its meeting last night. His resignation was accepted with regret, and it was decided to forward him a letter of appreciation for his splendid services during his term with the College.
An Oxford University Rugby blue, Mr H. R. G. Percy, 8.A., has been appointed to the teaching staff of Wanganui Collegiate School. He is due to arrive at Auckland' on September 4. Mr Percy comes from Uppingham and was in the same house as Mr F. W. Gilligan. headmaster of Wanganui Collegiate School. He won his blue in his freshman year. 1936, and played in the same side as Prince' Obolensky. MrPercy played in the Oxford side for three consecutive seasons, as wing-three-quarter. Should Mr Percy play Rugby next season he will be a decided acquisition to the Wanganui union.
The death has occurred of Mr C. L. T. Petersen, a very old resident of the Manawatu district, at the age of 85. Born in Copenhagen, he landed in New Zealand 63 years ago at Foxton. Firstaking up farming, Mr Petersen ultimately entered the employ of Mr F. J. Nathan when he started a creamery in Ashhurst, and remained in the employ of the Nathan firm till his retirement 13 years ago. Mr Petersen was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Ashhurst. Mrs Petersen predeceased her husband 29 years ago, and he is survived by six "children—Mr C. Petersen (Palmerston North), Mrs A. McLeavey (Palmerston North), Mr F. Petersen (Ashburton), Mr G. Petersen (Hikuai, near Waihi), Mrs M. Webb (Palmerston North), and Mrs C. Symes (Woodville).
