WRESTLING
MATCH IN MASTERTON. One of,the most recent additions to the Dominion Wrestling Union's forces will be seen in action in Masterton on Tuesday against Frank Forster, the popular South African. This is Prince Bhu Pinder, the Indian wrestler who beat “Lofty” Blomficld in his first New Zealand match, and the fact that he and Forster are the representatives of two Empire countries will give the engagement additional interest. Forster, who was an amateur champion in his own country and also distinguished himself as a Rugby footballer, player with Tony Harris and Fred Turner, two of the 1937 Springboks, in the Johannesburg Pirates team, arrived here with a reputation as a capable and spectacular wrestler which he has since fully substantiated. He and Bhu Pinder have one thing in common and that is that they both came to New Zealand in search of Earl McCready’s Empire title and the match between them will provide an interesting sidelight on their prospects of succeeding before the season closes. Bhu Pinder is an exceptionally interesting personality. He is a product of the wrestling school conducted at Lahore by the Great Gama, the greatest of Indian wrestlers. He now ranks third among the Indian wrestlers. About five years ago he decided to try his hand at the all-in style and, during his travels to the East (Shanghai and Hong Kong), North America, and various places around the Pacific, the decision has proved to be a profitable one. His record against the American wrestlers like that over Indians is very good and includes wins over men like Kruse, Szabo, Kashey, Sonnenberg, Rumberg, Forsgren and Williams. He is 28 years old, sft. Ilin, in height, and weighs about 16| stone. The amateur preliminaries are specially matched to provide spectacular wrestling and in view of the' Wairarapa championships to be held at Featherston on Saturday, September 2. all the competitors are fit and keen. The night’s programme promises to be one
of the best and patrons will be well advised to book early at Orange’s, Masterton, or Colson's, Carterton, to avoid disappointment. McCREADY DEFEATS MARTINEZ. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 23. Earl McCready tonight beat Ignacio Martinez by one fall in one of the cleverest and best wrestling bouts of the Christchurch season so far. McCready’s fall was taken after dumps in the seventh round. When the bout was over Martinez kept on fighting and'a police inspector stepped into the ring and stopped the contest.
