"The Times" Budapest correspondent says that the Hungarians cannot reconcile their friendship with Germany and hatred of Bolshevism and are awaiting the reactions of the Western Powers to Herr von Ribbentrop’s negotiations. The authorities fear an increase in the activities of the Hungarian Nazis. "The Times" Istanbul correspondent says that Turkey is surprised and cautious, and at the same time determined to resist aggression in accordance with her pledge, but is aware that Western prestige has suffered a blow. Political circles in Burcharest are perturbed owing to Rumania’s alliance with Poland. The Foreign Minister, M Gafencu. is consulting with his advisers and foreign diplomats. It is his opinion that the dilatoriness of the Western Powers in the Russian negotiations led to the Russian-German rapprochment. Observers in Helsinki are pessimistic. their main anxiety being that Russia and Germany may co-operatively threaten Finland’s independence.
