SALE AT JOHNSONVILLE. WETHER PRICES FIRMER. (By Telegrapn—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A large yarding of cattle and an average yarding of sheep were forward at the sale conducted in Johnsonville yesterday by Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams. Ltd.

Only a few pens of prime quality bullocks were offered, the balance of the yarding comprising chiefly light and unfinished cattle. The prime quality bullocks met with good competition, showing no alteration on last week. Prime medium bullocks sold were hard to quit. Extra prime heavy cows and heifers met with a good demand at prices showing, a firming tendency. Lightweight cows were easier by 5s to 10s a head. Heavy runners met with a good sale, prices showing .no alteration. The vealers penned lacked quality, prices being firm on up-country rates. With the exception of a few pens of light and medium weight wethers, the sheep yarding was of exceptionally good quality. Extra prime heavy wethers were firmer by Is a head. Lightweight wethers were slightly easier. No extra heavy ewes came forward, the pennings comprising chiefly lightweight and poorer sorts. Good quality ewes sold at prices firmer by Is to Is 6d a head, other ewes showing no alteration. Because of the poor quality of the hoggets, there was little demand. Prices are: — Cattle: Prime extra heavy bullocks, £l6 to £l5; prime heavy, £l4 18s to £l4; heavy, £l3 15s to £l3; light and unfinished, £l2 5s to £lO 10s: extra prmi eheavy cows and heifers. £lO 10s to £9 15s; prime heavy, £9 7s fid to £7 17s; cows and heifers, £7 5s to £6 10s; lightweight heifers, £6 5s to £5 ss; runners, heavy, £5 Ils to £3 18s: plain. £3 5s to £2 ss; prime, £3 5s to £2 ss; vealers, £2 2s to £1 15s. Sheep: Prime extra heavy wethers, 30s 6d to 28s 6d; prime heavy, 27s 6d to 23s 6d; medium, 22s 6d to 21s 3d; light, 20s 9d to 16s 6d; prime heavy ewes, 26s 6d to 23s 2d; medium. 21s 7d to 18s 9d; light, 17s 9d to 15s fid; hoggets, 20s 6d to 17s.

ADDINGTON VALUES. SHARP RISE IN MUTTON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 23. The scarcity of mutton at the weekly stock market, held in Addington today, caused a sharp advance in values of 2s to 2s 6d a head over the final part. A truck lot of Romney hoggets sold at 25s 8d; half bred ewe hoggets, at 225, medium at 13s to 18s, and rough down to 7s. Best ewes and lambs made Ils. The entry of fat sheep totalled about 4000, compared with 6750 last week. From the outset the sale wak firm, and over the last two races there was a sharp jump in values. The sale was one of the better of those held this season. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 40s Id, prime heavy 32s to 355, prime medium 27s 6d to 31s, light to 23s 6d; extra prime heavy ewes to 34s lOd, prime heavy 28s 6d to 31s 6d, prime medium 25s to 28s, light io 20s. The cattle market opened at a little better than the average rate of last week, but eased later. On the whole, values were little different from t.hos of a week ago, though old cows met a weaker sale. Extra prime heavy steers made to £2O 17s fid, prime heavy £l5 10s to £l6 15s, prime medium £l3 10s to £l5 ss, light to £lO ss; extra prime heifers to £l3 17s 6d’ prime £lO 10s to £l2. medium £9 to £lO ss, light to £8 10s; extra prime cows to £l5 17s 6d. prime £9 5s to £ll ss. medium £6 15s to £8 10s light to £6 10s.

The yarding of porkers was of medium size, and values are much the same as last week. Choppers were in medium supply, and again met with excellent competition. Baconers were forward in medium numbers, and prices were the best for a considerable period, competition being assisted by outside buyers. Porkers made 37s 6d to 59s 6d, an average price a lb of 7d to 7Ad; and baconers made £3 5s fid to £5 ls 6d ' an average price a lb of fiijd to 7.]d. Choppers made £3 Ils to £G 18 Gd. MASTERTON SALE. KEEN DEMAND FOR FAT SHEEP. The Associated Auctioneers report as follows in connection with yesterday’s Masterton sale: —Fat sheep again met keen demand, ewes and wethers being in short supply. There was also a very small yarding of stores, and a fair yarding of dairy cattle met with spirited bidding. Realisations were:— Sheep: Heavy fat ewes, to 25s Gd: light. 18s to 21s; heavy fat wethers, 26s Id; other sorts, 19s to 25s 3d; fat b.f. 2-th., to 25s 7d; good ewe hoggets, to 28s Gd; ewes ’with lambs at foot, 10s 9d all counted; 2-th. ewes r.w. rams, to Ils 3d; Woolly wether hoggets, small to 8s; culls, to 6s fid.

Cattle: Jersey cows on drop. £7 5s to £8 ss; Jersey heifers on drop, £8 to £9 ss: springing Jersey heifers, £5 10s to £7; cows in milk, £4 5s to £6 10s; fat heifers, ex-dairy. £4 to £5 ss; fat cows, ex-dairy, to £4 2s fid; yearling Jersey heifers, £2 12s Gd to £3 7s fid.

Pigs: Slips. 24s to 24s Gd: porkers, £2 5s to £2 11s.
