ESPERANTO
MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. The weekly' meeting of the Masterion Esperanto Club was held last evening in the clubroom, Municipal Buildings, Mr A. Dewar, D.8.E.A., presiding over a very good attendance of members. Correspondence in Esperanto received comprised an advance notification that members of the Wellington Esperanto Club are organising a visit shortly to the local club and journals from Holland, London, Geneva and Rome. It was reported also that the delegate system in New Zealand of the International Esperanto League, with headquarters in London, has been further extended by the appointment of a delegate at Wanganui and vice-dele-gates at Petcne and Wanganui.
In a brief talk in the international language, the secretary, Mr W. H. King, furnished interesting details relative to the 31st Universal Esperanto Congress which has in Berne. Switzerland. He'stated that although the risk of a European war appears to be very alarming at the present time, Esperantists were hopeful of the continuance of peace and were optimistically engaged in the preparatory arrangements for holding the 32nd World Congress next August, for which Marseilles, France, has been fixed as the venue.
The usual tuition of a varied and interesting nature was provided under the direction of Mr King. During the proceedings Mr W. J. Beresford gave a reading in Esperanto entitled “Malantau la Scenaro” (Behind the Scenes), which was re-written by dictation, by Mrs J. McNab for analysis.
The singing of “Nun Venas la Hor,’ ” brought an enjoyable meeting to a close.
