Viscount Bledisloe, as Past Grand Master of New Zealand Freemasons, represented the Dominion at the installation of the Duke of Kent by His Majesty the King as Grand Master of English Freemasons.
Guests at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton, include Messrs D. Marshall. H. E. Simm (Wellington). R. C. McKee, R. J. McKee. A. McKee (Petone) and Bush by (Hastings). The death occurred in Masterton yesterday of Josephine Ethel, the two months old daughter of Mr and Mrs Herbert Hill, of 111 Lincoln Road, Masterton. The interment took place this afternoon.
The well-known Southland owner, Mi- P. A. Price, died at Invercargill on Monday after a brief illness. He was the third son of Ihe late Mr F. A. Price, also a well-known racing owner some years ago. Mr Price was 50 years old. For more than 30 years he had been associated with racing in Southland, both as a breeder and an owner, and he took a keen interest in the trotting sport.
Excellent progress following his recent operation continues to be made by the Prime Minister. Mr Savage, and it is probable that he will leave the Little Company of Mary Hospital, Wellington. on Saturday for his home at Northland. Mr Savage entered hospial on August 3 and underwent a severe abdominal operation on August 4. He is able to receive a limited number of visitors each day.
Miss Joan Allen, daughter of Mr and Mrs I. Allen, of Upper Plain, Masterton, left yesterday for Auckland to join the Rangitata. which sails for London tomorrow. Miss Allen will join her sister. Miss Daphne Allen, who is at present in England. She will take Ihe opportunity of touring England and together with her sister, who is also a trained nurse, of taking a further course in nursing.
The death occurred yesterday in Auckland of Mr A. IL Valentine, a well-known member of the Oddlellows and Masonic fraternities. He was a Past Grand Master of New Zealand of the T.0.0.F.. N.Z.. a prominent member of the Encampment Branch of the same order, and held high office in the Masonic Order. His home was in Dunedin, and he was travelling through the North Island in the course of one of his regular trips when he took ill at .Auckland a lew days ago.
