GALA DAY PROPOSED

RAISING OF FUNDS TO MEET CRICKET GUARANTEE. VISIT OF-AUSTRALIAN TEAM. An enthusiastic meeting of Wairarapa cricketers and supporters was held in the A. and P. Association's Rooms. Masierton last night. Mr P. G. Ramsay presiding over a good attendance.' The chairman explained that the object of the meeting was to raise funds to meet the guarantee required for tlie visit of Mr Don Bradman and his team of Australian cricketers during the approaching cricket season. The meeting favoured the suggestion that a gala day be Held on the occasion of the opening of the cricket season, and instead of the usual cricket matches, to arrange for Cricket Club relay races, a military display, athletic events, and to request the co-operation of the Inter-House Association in a girls' display, together with the usual variety of stalls.

Mr L. Matthews offered a lamb for a judging competition, which was gratefully accepted.

It was decided to organise a dance in the evening, Messrs G. B. Peterson, R. Lendrum and G. V. Greer being appointed a committee to attend to the details.

The gala day committee consisting of Messrs P. G. Ramsay. J. Renner. O. Hatton. J. B. McPherson. F. Dohnt, and A. Whiteman was set up to arrange the programme. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the chair.
