ROAD FATALITIES
MOTOR-CYCLIST KILLED NEAR PAEKAKARIKI. CAR EXTENSIVELY DAMAGED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A fatal accident occurred on the main highway about a quarter of a mile north of the Paekakariki School on Saturday morning, when a motorcycle collided with a motor car. William J. Pearce, the cyclist, was killed instantly. He received severe head injuries, a fractured arm and leg, as well as other injuries. The driver of the motor-car was Mr Robert Barnes Gibbons, Khandallah, whose daughter was travelling with him. Neither was injured. Mr Pearce who was 36 years of age. and single, was a clerk in the Native Affairs Department, in Levin. He was travelling in a southerly direction when the accident occurred, and the car was proceeding in the opposite way. The car is reported to have been more extensively damaged than the motor-cycle. The body was brought into Wellington last night, after a burial certificate had been issued by the coroner at Otaki. An inquest will be held. DEATH OF WOMAN CYCLIST. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 10. Fatal injuries were received by a woman cyclist when she came into collision with a motor-car at Mount Wellington on Saturday afternoon. The victim was Mrs Charlotte Anne Rogers, aged about 54, of Mount Wellington. The accident occurred about 100 yards from her home.
