WAIRARAPA LADIES’ REP. TEAM.
TWO PLAYERS ON SICK LIST
Members of the Wairarapa ladies’ tournament team will hold a practice at Lansdowne at 2.30 tomorrow afternoon. Should the weather prove too wet, members are requested to assemble at the Kia Ora Club Rooms at 2.30 for gymnastic exercises. Fortune has not been too kind to the tournament team. Following the tragic death of Miss Stubbs, the captain (Miss E. Barnes) and Miss D. Matthews have both reported on the sick list and following medical advice have decided to abandon the trip. Miss B. Welch has been appointed captain in place of Miss Barnes. The Wairarapa team will probably be the youngest combination participating in the tournament. All outstanding fare money must be in the hands of the manager before Monday morning. Owing to unforeseen circumstances the lecture which was to have been delivered to members of the team at the manager’s residence by Mr Maloney on Saturday evening has been postponed until after gymnasium practice at the Kia Ora Club Rooms on Wednesday evening. MEN’S GAMES. JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVES. The selector, Mi - R. S. Moor, has chosen the following players to represent Wairarapa against Wellington at Wellington on Saturday, August 26; in a representative hockey match: Goal, H. Hayes (Wesley); full backs, H. Abbott (Dalefield), K. Jaine (College O.B.); halves, L. Ferguson (Wesley), L. Sayer (Dalefield), L. Forsberg (College O.B.); forwards, S. Ward (Carterton), S. Faulknor (College O.B.), R. Harrington (Wesley) captain, E. Reeves (Wesley). T. Sale (College O.B.) Emergencies: Backs —K. Ordish (Dalefield), R. Easthope (Wesley); forward, F. Reeves (Wesley). Any player selected who is not available is requested to notify the selector, ’phone 2273, immediately. Wairarapa College players were not available for selection owing to their being in Wanganui, competing in the Secondary Schools’ tournament. The team will travel by bus. leaving the Post Office, Masterton, at 9.30 a.m. There is a limited number of seats available to junior players and supporters in the bus and anyone wishing to make the trip with the team is asked to communicate with the secretary, ’phone 2273, immediately so that final arrangements can be made.
The North v South Wairarapa match set down for August 26 has been postponed owing to North not being able to field a team on account of the junior representative fixture 'in Wellington and the Wairarapa College team being in Wanganui on this date.
