Those present were Mr Duncan McGregor, ■chairman, and Councillors Alex McGregor. C. A. Cameron. L. S. Gallon. E. W. Allen and W. E. Reid. Arising out of a letter, the question of a suitable centennial memorial came up for discussion. Councillor Reid moved and Councillor Court seconded "that a Women’s Rest Room be erected at Carterton as a memorial and that the Carterton Borough Council be informed of the county’s opinion."
"The borough had their own proposal turned down so they might consider it in order 'to take advantage of our proposal,” said Councillor Reid.
"A women’s rest room is certainly needed." he added. The motion was carried. Forty-five feet of pipes had been laid on the Works Road and filling carted from the cutting on Norfolk Road. A start had been made deepening the water-race on Norfolk Road to take the 15in. pipes. In order to do this work, the watei in this race had been turned off. Foi the purpose of construction work, the sides of Belvedere Road had been graded off and used as filling to widen the road on the eastern side of the bridge. Culverts had been repaired on Para, Denby’s and Francis roads. The "haunches on the northern side of Somerset Road had been graded off and carted away to widen the road at the swamp.
