INDOOR BOWLS Several rinks of Masterton bowlers journeyed to Carterton last evening bringing their bowls and mats for the purpose, to a certain extent, of creating interest in the establishment of a club in Carterton next winter. The visitors met several rinks of Carterton bowlers and interesting games wer,e playod and enjoyed by all. Although the miniature bowls were strange to handle at first by the Carterton players, as the games were advanced the contests became more interesting and even. The- visitors were entertained at supper. The organisation of a club for indoor bowling in Carterton will create food for thought during the summer recess and probably next year Carterton will boast of an indoor bowling club. Davidson, King, Morris, Sewell, McLoughlin. Bus leaves promptly at 12.30. Hockey Club's Dance. On Monday evening the Hinemoa Ladies’ Hockey Club is holding a dance in the Bandroom. Carterton, the proceeds of which will go toward the chib. As hockey in Carterton is watched by many residents free of charge, it is hoped there will be a large assemblage of dancers in the Band Room on Monday night to help .the ladies raise funds for the club. The prices of admission are advertised. Personal. Mr A. R. Wallis, many years ago a valued resident of Carterton and now a resident of Taranaki, is visiting his nephew. Mr H. D. Wallis. Kent Street. Mr Wallis has been to Wellington to see his son. William, who is an inmate of the Wellington Public Hospital. Mr ■■k Wallis is quite hale and hearty des“■""'pite his advanced age of 94 years. Mr E. McKenzie. New Zealand Rugby Union sole selector, left last evening for Christchurch when he will be present at. football matches on Saturday seeking members for the 1940 South African Rugby football tour. The Rev W. J. Couling. of Geraldine. will be a visitor to Carterton over the weekend and will preach at the Presbyterian Church at both services, and at Gladstone in the afternoon. Church Service.
