ESSAY COMPETITION

DISTRICT YOUNG FARMERS. D. McGREGOR PLACED FIRST. The district essay competition promoted by the Wairarapa District Committee of Young Farmers’ Clubs was won by D. McGregor, of the Masterton Club, with M. Knutson and G. Wadham, both of the Carterton Club, second and third respectively. The subject of the essay was: “Why I am a Young Farmer Club Member.” The essays generally were of a commendable standard. They were judged by Mr G. H. Perry, patron, and the prizemoney, £2 2s for first and £1 Is for sceond, was donated by Mr W. F. McLaren, of Masterton. Points stressed in the essays were the reasons for joining the movement, the benefits received from the educational, social and general points of view, and suggestions for increasing the effectiveness of clubs and the pleasure, interest and 'educational value of the movement’s activities.
