CRITICAL WEEKS
UNEASINESS IN POLAND APPARENT UNCERTAINTY IN BERLIN. IMPORTANCE OF VISITS TO HITLER. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (.Received This Day, 12.35 p.m.) LONDON. August 15. Though in Berlin the Danzig situation seems to be suddenly becalmed, and even Press comment has died down, while Italian newspapers continue to urge a peaceful solution, it is felt in Warsaw that the next three weeks will be critical. The uncertainty, apparent in Berlin is partly due to the absence of the leaders with whom the power of decision rests, though Dr Goebbels has unexpectedly returned by air from Italy. Meanwhile, according to "The Times” Berlin correspondent, it is realised that the visits by Count Ciano and Professor Burckhardt to Herr Hitler are far more important than has yet been admitted. MASSES OF TROOPS HUGE MOBILISATION IN GERMANY. DEFENCES ALONG ENTIRE POLISH FRONTIER. (Received This Day. 1.10 p.m.) BERLIN, August 15. After the conclusion of regimental manoeuvres this week, manoeuvres on a divisional scale will begin involving 1,800,000 men, and reaching a climax in September with two million men. Already defences have been erected along the entire length of the Polish frontier.
