MAORI EDUCATION

SCHOLARSHIPS PROPOSED.

On account of economic considerations the Kaikokirikiri and Papawai Trust has decided not to rebuild the Hikurangi College building which was destroyed by fire some years ago and the Otaki Trust has agreed to close Otaki College. As an alternative, these two trusts have decided to award scholarships which will enable Maori students showing promise to attend a course at any established Native College. It is understood that action is being taken to secure legislation to legalise these arrangements.
