MASTEKTON CLUB MEETING. FORTHCOMING CONGRESS. The weekly meeting of the Masterton iLsperamu. Cluo was nela last evening m me cluoroum, Municipal Buildings, Mr A. Dewar, D.es.il.a., presiding over a satisfactory attendance. Tne secretary, Mr VY. H. King, presented correspondence in Esperanto received since the last meeting of the ciub. 'Uns included a journal from China, containing war news relating to Hie present conflict between China and Japan, and the official organ of tire International League of Esperantist Postal, Telegraph ana Telephone Officers, which circulates in 75 countries. A quarterly report issued by the New Zealand Esperanto Association was also received. This supplied latest information relative to the forthcoming 10th New Zealand Esperanto congress, the feature film, “Idol’s Delight," .with Esperanto dialogue, an Esperanto correspondence course and a series of lessons shortly to appear in a New Zealand journal. It was announced that Miss Irene Bell, of the Wellington Esperanto Club had succeeded Mr J. Major as N.Z.E.A. congress secretary on account of the latter’s transfer to Auckland.
In a brief talk to members, Mr King dealt with the extent to which Esperanto was now being employed by radio stations. He said that it was now possible for a listener in Europe to hear Esperanto programmes and items during every night of the week.
With the aid of the blackboard various phases of Esperanto study were undertaken during the tuition period. Useful conversation was also indulged in and during the proceedings Mrs A. Dewar gave a reading in Esperanto entitled “La Propagando de Esperanto,” which was written at dictation by Mr A. G. Wiltshire and subsequently analysed.
An enjoyable meeting concluded with the song “Venas Nun la Hor” (“Now is the Hour”).
