QUEEN CARNIVAL BALL TOMORROW NIGHT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Green and Gold Ball and Queen Carnival which is to be held in the Memorial Hall tomorrow night promises to be an event that should not be missed by all lovers of dancing. All arrangements are practically completed, and the supper will be a decided feature of the evening. Amplifiers have been installed in the building. An officer of the Wairarapa Automobile Association has been specially engaged to direct the parking of cars. This innovation will no doubt be most welcome to motorists. Given fine climatic conditions there should be a record crowd. The crowning of the Queen of the Ball will take place approximately at 9.30 p.m. The dance music will be supplied by Tom Udy’s full orchestra. Women’s Institute. There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the local Women’s Institute held in the Memorial Hall on Thursday. Mrs Spicer (president) was in the chair. A word making competition was won by Mrs Atkinson with Mrs Crosbie second. A competition for a best knitted garment was won by Mrs R. McClelland. Mrs R. Murphy rendered a vocal solo which was well received. The hostesses for the afternoon were IVlesdames Thomas, Macdonald and Miss McKenzie. Euchre & Dance. The final euchre and dance held In the hall in connection with the Queen Carnival was largely attended. Prizes were won by Miss J. Scrimegour (1) and Mrs Carter (2). Messrs J. Riwai and K. Waiwera were the winners in the men's section, while the consolation prizes were won by Mrs Sutton and Mr D. Mclntosh. ! Personal. Mr R. McDougall, who has been visiting Christchurch for the National meeting, has returned home. Miss Joan Lovegrove, of the stall ol the local Post Office, has, on medical advice, been compillecl to temporarily relinquish her duties. Mesdames Riley and Stinson Wellington are visitors at the Lake Ferry Hotel and will leave for Taihape after the Green and Gold Ball. Miss Olive West who has been visiting relatives in Auckland, has returned home. Mr Guy Gillies, who was a visitor to Christchurch, has returned home. Mr John Tilson June., who underwent an operation for appendicitis recently, is gradually improving in health. Elder Dastrup, president of the Young Men’s Mutual Improvement Association. is a visitor here for the Green and Gold Ball.
