FACING STARVATION
JEWISH REFUGEES AT SMYRNA.
TURKS FEAR ENDLESS STREAM OF ARRIVALS.
(Independent Cable Service.) ANKARA, August 14
The GOO Czechoslovakian Jewish refugees who arrived at Smyrna in the steamer Parita last week face starvation as a result of fruitless efforts to obtain food from friends ashore. The Turks’ attitude has hardened as a result of the arrival of five more refugee ships at Fenike, a South Anatolian port. The authorities believe that if kindness is shown it would result in an endless stream of ships arriving at Turkish ports.
