BUTTER AND CHEESE VALUES LOWER LATEST LONDON QUOTATIONS RELATION TO GUARANTEED PRICE. The price of New Zealand butter in London eased by 2s a cwt last week. Prices have fallen by 9s during the past month. The present price of 117 s to 118 s compares with 124 s 3d. the sterling equivalent of the New Zealand guaranteed price. According to the cabled report supplied by the Primary Products Marketing Department to the Dairy Board, there was an improved demand for first grade at the end of the week. Friday’s closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, are as follows: —
New Zealand: Salted. 117 s to 118 s (,119s to 120 s; a year ago, 121 s); unsalted,’ 117 s to 118 s (120 s a year ago, 121 s to 1225).
Australian: Salted and unsalted. 107 s to 108 s (109 s to 110 s). Danish: 103 s, f.0.b.; 124 s to 125 s spot (103 s 124 s to 1255). The retail price of New Zealand butter is Is 2d to ,1s 3d, and that of Danish Is 3d a lb.
The present price of H7s is equal to approximately 13.96 d a lb, f.0.b.. New Zealand ports, compared with the guaranteed price of 14.89 d a lb., f.o.b. The London equivalent of the guaranteed price is 124 s 3d a cwt. The equivalent price of cheese is about 6.7 d a lb., f.0.b., compared with the guaranteed price of 8.42 d. Deliveries of New Zealand butter from store last week were only 914 tons, compared with 1242 tons for the preceding week. The quantity in store, including 564 tons ex Zealandic and Napier Star, was 4034 tons, as against 6521 tons a year ago.
Deliveries of Australian butter from store were 2186 tons, as against 2519 tons for the previous week. The quantity in store was 5013 tons, as against 4823 tons a year ago.
The cheese market remains quiet. Friday’s closing quotations with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as'follows: —
New Zealand, white, 59s (60s; a year ago, 70s 6d to 71s); coloured, 59s to 60s (625; a yfear ago, 70s 6d to 71s). Australian, white, 55s to 575; coloured, 56s to 58s, ex 595. Canadian, white and coloured, 63s (635); c.i.f., 57s (58s 6d); old season’s white, 73s to 75s (72s to 755); coloured, 73s to 74s (72s to 755).
English, finest farmers’, 78s to 84s (78s to 84s); factory cheese, 565. Deliveries of New Zealand cheese last week totalled 12,665 crates, compared with 16,494 crates for the previous week. The quantity in store, including 8630 crates ex Zeal:® die, was 98,710 crates, compared with 65,660 crates a year ago.
Deliveries of Canadian cheese were 4032 boxes, compared with 7198 boxes for the previous week. The quantity in store was 112,732 boxes, as against 85,879 boxes a year ago. Gradings of New Zealand cheese for the week ended August 4 totalled 452 crates, of which 354 crates were white and 98 crates coloured.
