BEER PRICES RAISED

ON ACCOUNT OF INCREASED TAX.

ACTION IN CANTERBURY.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. This Day

A special meeting of the Canterbury Licensed Victuallers’ Association this morning revised beer prices in hotels to meet the increased tax on beer provided for in the recent Budget. The increase was sixpence a gallon and it is to be handed on to hotelkeepers by the breweries to meet increased costs. Members of the association today decided upon the following revised charges:—All beer, sixpence a glass; draught beer, 5s a gallon instead of 4s Gd; square riggers, Is 6d instead of Is 3d; bottle beer (quarts). Is fid instead of Is 3d: 15s a dozen.

There will bo no more shouting, but “counter lunch" wif. be retained. The new scale of charges will operate on Wednesday.
