HIBERNIAN SOCIETY

BENEFIT LODGE SILVER JUBILEE. CELEBRATION AT WOODVILLE. Attended by representatives from Gisborne, Hastings. Dannevirke, Wellington, Palmerston North, Napier, Pahiatua, Lovin. Masterton and Wanganui branches, as well as representatives of several other lodges, the St Columbkille’s branch of the Hibernian Australasian Catholic Benefit Society’s silver jubilee held at Woodville on Saturday evening was an outstanding success.

The Mayor of Woodville, Mr R. R. Johnston, presided and an apology for absence was received from Sir Alfred Ransom. A message of best wishes was also received from His Grace Archbishop O'Shea. The New Zealand District Executive was represented by Bro J. McLachlan and those who made the trip from Masterton included Bro and Mrs W. Brady. Mrs and Mrs S. Herbert. Bros W. McArley. J. and A. J. Curry. J. McDonald. G. Costello. Sisters M. Diggins. K. Wickens, P. Brennan and J. Cross.

Bro. W. Brady, Masterton. a foundation member of the branch proposed the toast of the New Zealand District Executive. The usual toast list was honoured and several items were contributed by local and visiting talent.
