GUN DOG TRIALS
WAIRARAPA CLUB EVENTS. GOOD PERFORMANCES ' RECORDED. The Wairarapa Gun Dog Club held a field trial yesterday on Mr Harry Nee’s property. Opaki Road. Competition was very keen, particularly in the open land, which was the principal event of the day. In this contest the winning dog, Mr P. R. Rose’s Labrador retriever, was the cause of much favourable comment in doing so well, securing 96 points. The new trial .known as the double bird non-sight retrieve also proved very popular, more particularly with dogs of the retriever breeds and proved its worth as a good test for nose and co-ordination of handler and dog. The open water was exceptionally hard and no dogs completed this test to the satisfaction of the judge, Mr W. H. Trengrove. One or two very promising puppies competed in the puppy trial. Notable among these was Mr J. W. Curtin's Labrador retriever, who did very well in securing 95 points in this event. Messrs H. K. Smith and Robt Buick acted in the capacity of official shots.
