STOCK MARKET
STRONG DEMAND FOR STOCK. MUTTON VALUES MAINTAINED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING, August 11. A strong demand for all stock was shown again at today’s sale in Feilding. Mutton values were well maintained, and dairy stock values advanced. Store sheep also found the market active; and a moderate entry of store cattle likewise sold well. Fat Sheep: The quality of the mutton yarded was not on a par with that of last week, but competition was again keen. Prices showed little fluctuation in the case of ewes and wethers. The peak price was not so high, but the average was at par figures. Extra prime ewes made 22/- to 23/-, prime 20/10 to 22/-, good average 19/8 to 20/6. lighter 16/- to 19/-; prime heavy wethers, 23/-; extra prime lambs, 23/7, prime 20/10, others 15/- to 18/8. Store Sheep: The market for store sheep was strong, and, with some excellent quality young sheep in, prices were well up to those of last week. Store Cattle: Boner cows of weight brought high prices. Good two-year A.A. heifers made £4 1/-; A.A. cows, best £4, others £3/3/- to £3 12/-; boner cows, heavy, £3 10/- to £4 2/-, others £2 10/- to £3 7/6. Fat Cattle: There was an improved demand. Prime quality heifer beef made to 30/- a 1001 b; however, the average quality was not high, prices for this being at unchanged level. Dairy Cattle: Outside buyers again made the market for dairy stock, a very keen choice of springing heifers near to profit meeting with brisk competition. Cows were not as readily sought, nevertheless they sold strongly. Choice springing heifers made £l3 to £l3 10/-, second quality £lO to £ll 10/-, later calves £7 10/- to £9 10/-; backward from £4 15/-; best springing cows £9 to £lO 5/-, good £7 to £8 15/-, backward sorts £4 2/6 to £6 15/-. Pigs: Large weaners made 16/6 to 24/-; good stores to 36/-; porkers, 42/-; sows, £2 2/- to £6 5/-. CARTERTON SALE. FAT SHEEP FIRMER IN PRICE. Messrs. Wright, Stephenson & Co., Ltd., report: We held our weekly sale at Carterton yesterday when an entry well up to advertised numbers was submitted to the usual attendance.
