WORLD’S FAIR
DESIRE TO SEE MAORIS INTEREST IN THE DOMINION'S PAVILIONS. QUEER QUESTIONS ASKED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 11. Visitors to the New Zealand pavilion at the World's Fair, where the Maoris are featured, have expressed disappointment that there are no live Maoris. The o.nly real Maorilander to set foot in the pavilion is Mr Arthur Karim, who is married to a Scotswoman and has acquired a very unMaorilike burr and settled on West End Avenue. The New Zealand attendants’ chief worry is in stopping visitors from' sticking their lingers in the model geysers. Common questions asked of the staff of the Australian pavilion were: "Does it take long to learn the language?” “Is there much danger from savages?” "Have you electric light yet?” "Are there many whites?” A business man, commenting on the map of the Commonwealth, said: "Fancy America having a country down there.”
So far the total paid attendance at the entire Fair is approximately thirteen millions.
