ROAD IMPROVEMENTS

SEALING & OTHER PROPOSALS. FEATHERSTON COUNTY HIGHWAYS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following report was submitted at yesterday’s monthly meeting of the Featherston County Council by the engineer, Mr H. F. Toogoou: — Weather conditions during the past month had been extremely unfavourable, and little progress has been made with construction. M.H. No. 72 Mar-tinborough-Pirinoa. The contractor had transported his mechanical shovel on to the job, and the filling work at Martin’s culvert should be actively in hand in a few days, M.H. No. 74 Pigeon Bush. Excepting for the culvert al Robbins, which is new work, the reconstruction has been completed and the road is now under intensive maintenance in anticipation of priming as the opportunity offers. Western Lake Road No. 1. One mile of this road has been reformed and is now being maintained with the view to priming. This is the section most exposed to wind, and which it was agreed should be sealed to prevent heavy maintenance and dangerous traffic conditions due to loose metal. Murphy’s' Line: The loose gravel on a length of GO chains has been blinded with pit metal from the Knoll pit. With a reasonable amount of maintenance this length could be primed this summer and thus considerably relieve the maintenance cost. This length of road is subject to flooding from Donald's Creek.
