HOCKEY
WESTING OF WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION. EANNIN SHIELD AND OTHER COMPETITIONS. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hockey Association was held in Masterton last evening, the president Mr G. Hayne, presiding. Mr Worsfold was thanked for his report on the Nordon Cup match at Nelson. A letter of thanks is to be forwarded to the Nelson Association for the hospitality extended to the Wairarapa team while in Nelson. The Wairarapa team was congratulated on its display at Nelson, while the selector was also commended for the team he had selected. It was decided to invite the Manawalu Association to send a team here early in September. The Bannin Shield knock-out competition will commence on September 2 when the championship games arc to be finalised. It was decided to play a North v South junior match on August 26 when the first eleven will be at Wellington. Mr G. Mahoney was appointed to select the- South team and Mr R. S. Moor tlie North. 11. was decided that the junior knock-out competition for the Cole Burgess Cup be commenced on September 2. The College team's engagement were postponed on August 19 to allow them to compete in the annual Secondary Schools’ tournament to be held at Wanganui. It was decided to hold an end of season dance in Masterton early in October. at which ihe presentation of trophies would take place. The Wairarapa Women's Association will also be invited to present trophies on the same night. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr E. Fleet, expressing regret and sympathy in his recent serious accident and to wish him a speedy recovery. It was decided to play three rounds in the third division.
