RUGBY FOOTBALL

BUSH TEAM BEATEN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TIMARU. August 9. South Canterbury beat the touring Bush team today by 10 points to 8. T. Morrison, a former All Black, scored all the South Canterbury points —two penalty goals and a magnificent field goal from 40 yards out and ten yards in from touch. The visitors’ points were scored by W. Twentyman —a try, which he converted himself, and a penalty goal. The game was poor in the first half, but brightened in the second, when scoring sea-sawed. The home pack was out-weighted, but gave a solid display, having the best of the set scrums and lineouts. HAWKE’S BAY BEAT WANGANUI. A CLOSE GAME. WANGANUI, August 9. The Wanganui representative Rugby team lost its unbeaten record for the season today when it had to acknowledge defeat to the Hawke’s Bay touring team by 18 points to 17. The halftime score favoured Wanganui, 11-10. In the scoring of tries Hawke’s Bay were more impressive than the final score would indicate, for they scored four tries to Wanganui’s one. NELSON WIN.
