CRIPPLED CHILDREN

ESTABLISHMENT OF WORKSHOP. SUPPORT FOR AUCKLAND PROPOSAL. At the fortnightly meeting of the executive of the Wairarapa branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society held early this week, Mr. E. M. Hoddei- (chairman) referred to a number of cleft palate cases that were requiring operative treatment. The cost, unfortunately, was beyond the finances of the branch, but it was hoped that some means would be found to overcome this difficulty. The Auckland branch of the Society wrote in connection with a proposal to establish a workshop for the purpose of training crippled children who were unable to leave their invalid chairs, for suitable occupations where the worker could sit at a bench. It was resolved to reply in favour of the establishment of such a workshop. The following new members were elected: Miss A. Ninnes, Mrs. M. A. Moore and Mr. E. G. Osborn. Accounts amounting to £7 8s 2d were passed for payment. Mrs. S. N. Kilgour (Welfare Officer) •eported on visits during the past fortnight to 23 cases in Masterton and surrounding districts. As official delegates of the Wairarapa branch, Mrs. H. E. Pither and Mr. E. M. Hodder will attend the artnual congress of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society, to be held at Wellington on August 17.
