TEMPERANCE LEAGUE
MEETING IN MASTERTON. The monthly meeting of the Masterlon Young People’s Temperance League was held last night in the Methodist Bible Class Room. Mr Sims presided over a fair attendance of members. After the devotions led by Mr A. Handyside, considerable time was spent in considering the pageant of the W.C.T.U. which is to be held next month. All members present volunteered their services for the pageant. In view of the nearness of this pageant Mr A. Handyside moved and Miss Jamieson seconded that the September meeting take the form of a rehearsal. The motion was carried. After the business came a round table discussion on the subject of peace. Five members gave short addresses from five different aspects as follows: — "The Futility of War” (Mr Handyside) "War is National Suicide" (Miss Jamieson), “Disarmament” (Miss Brader). "Power of Press” (Mr A. Ross), and “Youth” (Miss A. Birch). The initiation of three new members followed after which the meeting closed with the pronouncing of the benediction.
