FLEET REVIEW
HIS MAJESTY’S VISIT TO WEYMOUTH MEMORABLE NAVAL OCCASION. ASSEMBLAGE OF RESERVE SHIPS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.35- a.m.) RUGBY, August 8. The King broke his holiday at Balmoral tonight to entrain for the south, in order to inspect 135 ships of the Reserve Fleet at Weymouth tomorrow. The Royal train is due at Weymouth at 9.55 a.m., and on arrival his Majesty will drive to Bincleave’s Pier and embark on the Victoria and Albert, which left Portsmouth this afternoon. The King payed a visit to the aircraft carrier Courageous, the flagship the .Effingham, the cruiser Cardiff, flying the flag of Vice-Admiral Raikes, commanding the destroyer flotilla and the flo-tilla-leader Exmouth.
In the afternoon the King will cruise round the fleet in the Royal barge, or if the weather is unfavourable in the Enchantress.
The Royal train will leave again for the north about eight hours after its arrival. When it reaches Ballater again on Thursday morning, it will have travelled nearly fifteen hundred miles.
The Enchantress, with Earl Stanhope (First Lord), Mr G. Shakespeare (Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty), Admiral Pound and other high naval officers on board, and the French destroyer Volta, with Admiral Darlan, left Portsmouth late this evening for Weymouth.
