ABOUT BLOWING DANZIG TO BITS POLISH NEWSPAPER THREAT. GERMAN PRESS REACTION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright BERLIN, August 8. An article published in a Warsaw newspaper named “Czas” threatening that Poland will blow Danzig to bits if it unites with Germany has provoked violent reactions in the German Press.
The "Voelkischer Beobachter” says: "Poland is not in a position to challenge our vastly superior forces. Those who mistake Germany's peaceful intentions for boundless patience make a profound mistake.” The “Boresen Zeitung” says: “If we one day lose our patience the impertinent challenger cannot hope for mercy.” The remainder of the Press comments similarly.
NOT TAKING PART POLAND & THE RUSSIAN NEGOTIATIONS. WOULD PREVENT DISCUSSION WITH GERMANY. (Received This Day, 9.15 a.m.) WARSAW, August 8. It is officially denied that Poland will participate in the Russian talks. It is pointed out that this would close the door on negotiations with Germany. Foreign observers point out that Poland does not really want Russian help, although the present tension has diminished her unwillingness to cooperate with the Soviet. . TENSION EASED SOME HOPE OF SETTLEMENT BY DISCUSSION. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.33 a.m.) RUGBY, August 8. The newspapers detect a slight easing in tension over Danzig. Informed quarters in London consider that prospects of an improvement in the situation are based on the continuance of discussions between Warsaw and Danzig in regard to matters which hav? occurred in the last few days. The hope is still entertained that these matters will be discussed over the talfle in the near future between Polish an! Danzig Senate representatives.
