WAIRARAPA AND WELLINGTON COLTS MATCH RESULTS IN DRAW. HIGH STANDARD OF PLAY. In a badminton match played in Wellington on Saturday night. Wairarapa and Wellington drew, 12 rubbers all. Wairarapa won 30 sets to Wellington's 29 and Wellington won 666 aces to 626. The standard of play was high, and many of the games were very evenly contested. On arrival in Wellington the Wairarapa visitors were entertained at dinner, and were later accorded a warm welcome by Mr J. B. Black, secretary of the Wellington Badminton Association, prior to the commencement of play. The outstanding games were between A. N. Blake (Wellington) and G. McCullough (Wairarapa), who both played excellent badminton. Blake after losing the first set 16-18 won the next two. McCullough was unfortunate in breaking his racket in the third set. Mrs Colpus. Wellington’s top woman, was too strong for Miss Dixon, conceding only one point in two sets. Mrs Colpus should develop into one of Wellington’s leading women players. Miss Congreve after losing the first set went on to win the next two 12-10, 12-11. Miss Congreve is another young player showing promise. F. Walker, in defeating the left-hand-ed Tinakori player, R. Dickens, displayed a good all-round knowledge of the game and should be a useful player to the Wairarapa in the future. Miss M. Bell played excellently to . defeat Miss H. Buck in two straight sets. A match that was up to the best A grade standard was that between Blake and Mrs Colpus and McCullough and Miss Dixon. 'Wellington lost the first set 14-17, but improved to win the next two sets, 15-8, 15-9. The institution of colts’ matches between the various associations is to be commended, and the progressive action of the Wairarapa Association in moving first in that direction. should be a means of building up first class teams in the future.
