The Wairarapa hockey representatives were robbed of victory in the last minute of the Nordori Cup game against Nelson. It was a fast game with no score in the first half. Five minutes from the end Wairarapa were awarded a penalty goal for obstruction by the Nelson goalkeeper. A minute from the end Wilkinson equalised for Nelson, who thus retain the cup. It was an exciting finish’ to a good exhibition.

FAST, CLEVER DISPLAY

PLENTY OF THRILLS,

(Special to "Times-Age.”)

There was an attendance of about 1500 to sec the match and they were treated to a fast and clever display of hockey. The first spell was very fast and though both teams were close to scoring the spell ended with no score. After about ten minutes in the second spell Wairarapa were awarded a penalty bully against the Nelson goalie for a bad infringement and Worsfold goaled to give Wairarapa the lead. Both teams were doing great work and the spectators were given plenty of thrills. It looked as if Wairarapa would win. They maintained their lead until twe minutes from the boll, when Wilkie the Nelson left wing, rushed through tc score the equalising goal, ana one of the most exciting games seen in Nelson ended 1-all with Nelson still holding the cup. The Wairarapa team were hospitably entertained by the Nelson Association during their stay, and returned home yesterday per plane. GAMES IN WAIRARAPA. NORTH DEFEAT SOUTH. Hockey in the Wairarapa was continued on Saturday, conditions being ideal, some very interesting games were seen. The only senior game on Saturday was the North and South game played at Carterton. This resulted in a win for the North by 3 goals to 1. After a rather patchy display.

In the junior division Wesley and College are still on equal terms at the head of the competition. College Old Boys were beaten easily by Carterton. They just could not get going. Carterton on the other hand played very well, combining nicely, they were always dangerous and well deserved their win. RESULTS AT A GLANCE. The hockey games played on Saturday resulted as follow: —, Senior Ladies. Carterton 4, Kia Ora A 0. Kiwi 3, Kia Ora B 1. Junior Ladies. Wairarapa College 6, Excelsior 3. Featherston 6, College B 0. In the North v South match the game at times was fast and interesting with patches of bright play by both.

sides:. North were definitely superior on the day. and their score should have been much higher. From the first bully North rushed play to South territory and kept them well tied up on defence. Ward, in goal for South, was responsible for some brilliant work in the net, and try as they would the North forwards could not get past him. After about 15 minutes Dick opened the scoring by goaling from close in. Immediately after Bickwell, Knutson and Sayer were associated in a forward rush for South, and Sayer scored to even the score. North were soon back again, however, and kept up a hot attack. The goalie stopped a hoi one from Bell from a penalty corner but Brooks rushed in to put the ball into the net and North led by 2/1. South were unlucky in not drawing oven again, but the half time whistle beat them. North were on top for most of the second spell, and had the South backs working hard. The North forwards were shooting at goal from all angles, but could not get past th' goalie till Bell slammed in a hot one from close in. which gave the goalie no chance. South with several dangerous rushes tried hard to reduce the lead, but full time sounded with the score North 3. South 1. Messrs G. Hayne and Adams were the referees. WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION. SATURDAY'S GAMES. Their appears to be little interest in the senior women's matches just now. which arc more or less practice games for members of the tournament team. Kia Ora A were beaten by Carterton by 4/0 on the Lansdowne grounds Kiwi also gained a win from Kia Or: B by 3 1. As College were playinj: at Wanganui, their match with Excel sior was postponed till a later date There was a big surprise in store fo' the junior supporters when College / decisively beat Excelsior by 6 3 on the College grounds. COLLEGE MATCH. WAIRARAPA BEAT WANGANUI. The annual match between Wairarapa College and Wanganui Girls’ College took place in Wanganui last Saturday afternoon under ideal weather conditions and on a ground almost as perfect as a bowling green. The result was a splendid exhibition of the game, fast throughout, and even until the final quarter of an hour in which four of the five goals were scored Wairarapa showed better staying power, were rather faster and were distinctly better in the half line: otherwise the teams were very evenly rnat-

ched. Both had strong bull-backs, all four of whom will be representing their respective associations at the New Zealand tournament.

The first spell was thrilling both sides attacking strongly in turn, but the defence was excellent and the only score was by Wairarapa. Elaine Hanley, accepting a strong centre from the right, and putting in a hot shot. Wanganui did most attacking in the early part of the second spell but the Wairarapa goalie. Mary Smith, made u number of splendid saves. Strong hits by F. Baird and N. Wrigley sent play to the other end where a slip by one of the backs found E. Hanley charging in to score again. After this Wairarapa had the upper hand and had it not been for the sound defence of the Wanganui goalie. Hazel Hansen, and the two backs. M. Cook and J. Harre. the score would have mounted. As it was' E. Hanley and K. Ross each found the net.

A final determined effort by Wanganui in which their captain. Lois Weston. and their very line right wing. S. Bullock, took a leading part, resulted in*a good goal being scored by the latter. The game which was very ably controlled by Mrs Simpson and Mr Sampson, ended with Wairarapa winning by 4 goals to 1. The visitors were hospitably entertained by the Wanganui girls and were particularly interested in a trip to Castlediff to see the stranded liner. Port Bowen. They returned on Saturday evening.
