FEATHERSTON
WRESTLING CONTESTS “KOOLMANS” v. FEATHERSTON. ("Times-Age" Special.) 'There was another large attendance in the Featherston Town Hall on Saturday night, amongst whom were many ladies and girls. On the last occasion Mr Koolman (Wellington) visited Featherston, he rather underestimated the strength of this club, with the result that Featherston won rather comfortably. Profiting by experience, Mr Koolman brought up a pretty formidable team on Saturday and turned the tables on this club, winning 5 bouts against Featherston's 1, with G draws. Unfortunately Mr McLeod had six of his good men away through illness, etc. These were: Messrs Wenden. Price. Blain, Jensen, Piper and McLeod. Had these boys been able to wrestle the scores may have been different. However, Mr Koolman’s men were good, and some brilliant wrestling was witnessed. The last bout of the evening was between two of his men, Bradley and Hutchinson, who wrestled for a trophy donated by ; the Featherston Club, Hutchinson winning after giving a most spectacular exhibition. The honours of the evening as far as Featherston Club are concerned, went to “Chick” Neal, who secured a win for Featherston.
Owing to shortage of men Featherston had the assistance of two wrestlers from the Masterton Club, namely Messrs Edwards and Sutherland, both acquitting themselves remarkably well. Before a contestant entered the ring, he was medically examined by Dr. G. S. Sharp. Mr Bell (Masterton) was the announced and Mr T. Hardie the timekeeper, while the refereeing of Mr Ned Perry left nothing to be desired. At the conclusion, the visitors were entertained at supper by the local officials.
