Riggs virtually clinched the No .1 position in the American Davis Cup team by the convincing manner in which he defeated Wood, 10-8, 6-4, 6-4. in 93 minutes in the final of the Meadow Club’s tournament. Riggs won the 1000-dollar trophy outright, having won it three years in succession. Disgusted with his showing yesterday. he changed his tactics. He usually avoids the net, but today he took the offensive. >
In the doubles semi-final yesterday Riggs and Wood defeated Ernest and Sutter, 6-2, 6-2, 7-5.
