WELFARE LEAGUE

4 MEETING IN MASTERTON. PRESENTATION TO MRS KILGOUR. The monthly meeting of the Women's National Welfare League was held in the Midland Hotel yesterday afternoon. Miss Kummer presided over an excellent attendance of members, there being an especially large gathering in honour of Mrs Kilgour who has resigned from the secretaryship. Visitors included Miss B. Kummer and the Rev. E. J. Rich.

Miss Beiliss, in the absence of Mrs Tolhurst, submitted a report on visits paid to the hospital during the past month and visitors were arranged for August 7 and 21. The Matron of the Buchanan Home suggested that the next visit be paid in September as the Martinborough Institute was arranging an afternoon there this month.

Mrs A. W. McKenzie reported on welfare work, and said that four necessitous cases had been visited and given assistance. Mrs Pither reported that a very satisfactory number of orders had been received for articles made by the Blind Institute and that the League was instrumental in selling 15 books of art union tickets for it. A letter was received from the Institute suggesting that their Military Band should visit Masterton on October 12 and 13. It was decided to support the visit of the band provided that the date were altered so as not to clash with other fixtures. It was left to Mrs Pither to arrange a meeting of delegates from other bodies interested on Thursday; August 10 to meet the representative of the band and to make arrangements for the proposed visit. The League acknowledged with thanks generous donations from Mrs Doyle, Mrs F. Taylor and Mrs Kerslake.

At the conclusion of the meeting the president, Miss Kummer, made a presentation to Mrs Kilgour and thanked her for her long years of enthusiastic work on behalf of the League. Mrs Kilgour suitably replied.

The Rev. E. J. Rich then gave a most instructive address on the Jewish problem and was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks.
