GREYTOWN

THE CENTENNIAL LOCAL CELEBRATIONS PROPOSED. (“Times-Age” Special.) A public meeting was held in tho Town Hall last night to make arrangements for the Greytown Centennial celebrations. Mr Horton (Mayor) occupied the chair. The question was whether the celebrations should be held and what form they should take. An apology for absence was received from Mr H. G. Carter owing to indisposition. Mr Wood, Superintendent of the Fire Brigade, stated that the Fire Brigade would do their part. Mr W. A. Tate suggested fixing a date, and proceeding with celebrations in February, 1940. Mr J. F. Thompson proposed the Rest Room be opened then; also that horse sports be held in the Memorial Park, and to mark the old pioneering days in some way. Mr Bloomfield said that he thought that as Greytown was the oldest Wairarapa town celebrations should be held. The question of appointing an organiser was discussed. Mr Gregor moved that the celebrations be held on February 2, subject to it not clashing with other functions. It was stated that the subsidy available was £1 in every £3 raised. Mr J. F. Thompson was asked to supply a list of the names of those whom he thought would be interested and that these residents be circularised. The motion was carried. A meeting will be called later to further discuss the matter. MINIATURE RIFLES RESULTS OF LAST NIGHT'S SHOOT.
