A photograph of Bishop Pompallier’s missionary vessel Sancta Maria, apparently taken from a sketch, has been presented to the Old Colonists' Museum by Mr C. J. O’Keeffe. of Mount Eden. A topsail schooner of 90 tons, the Sancta Maria was purchased by Bishop Pompallier about 1840. She had previously traded on the New Zealand coast as the Atlas and had served as tender to two American whaling ships.
