LONDON, August 1
General de Llano has been appointed chief of a military mission which will proceed to Italy shortly, states a message from Madrid. An Independent Service message from Hendaye states that it is announced officially from Burgos that the chief police officer in Valencia has replaced the Civil Guard commander of the region. This new purge, it is believed, follows street disturbances in Valencia. Trouble is also reported from Cadiz. One of the first jobs falling to General Saliquet. who has replaced General do Llano, was the silencing of protests against General de Llano’s removal among the Cadiz garrison. General Saliquet is reported to have ordered the arrest of several anti-Falan-gist officers.
A recent cable message from Hendaye referred to a report that General de Llano, an opponent of General Franco’s policy, had been arrested.
