AGAINST WAR

CHANCES FIVE TO ONE THIS YEAR

ACCORDING TO AMERICAN OBSERVER.

FOLLOWING ON VISIT TO GERMANY.

(Independent Cable Service.) LONDON. August 1

Cabling to the “Daily Express’’ from The Hague, Mr Joseph Paterson, proprietor of the New York “Daily News,’’ said: “I have just returned from a 10day trip to Germany. I think the chances are 10 to one against a general European war before September, and five to one against war this year.” He Bases the forecast on the condition of crops and conditions in respect of public works. He reports that German army motorised units are to be seen everywhere. There is no doubt about the army’s loyalty to Herr Hitler, because the Fuehrer has restored the army’s old dignity. The Germans look well nourished, but there is no food to spare.
