PROVISION IN BUDGET. BIG INCREASE IN LABOUR • VOTE. The Labour Department’s expenditure last year was, £ 134,758 and this year’s estimate is £2,720,000. The huge increase of £2,585,242 in this vote includes the provision of £2,500.000 for employment promotion. As there is no employment fund money available now. provision has to be made in the Consolidated Fund for employment promotion amounting to £2,500,000 under the Labour Department vote and £400.000 under the Native Affairs Department vote. There is also a reduction in the credits in aid under the Labour Department vote. The Native Department last year expended £122.932. The year's estimate is £529.990. an increase of £407.058, which includes the £400,000 for employment promotion.
