BASKETBALL

QUADRANGULAR TOURNEY. HUTT VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL WIN CONTEST. The Hutt Valley High School team, with two clear-cut victories, won the annual quadrangular basketball tourney which concluded at Lower Hutt on Saturday. The othei’ three teams in the tourney represented Wellington East Girts’ College and Dannevirke High School and Wairarapa College. Last year's tournament, the first of the series, was played at Wairarapa and won by Wairarapa College. Saturday's games were played in a gusty wind which gave the players trouble in passing and goal shooting. The first game, between Dannevirke and Wairarapa, the losers of Friday, was a fast one, but Wairarapa held an advantage from soon after the start. The final score was 14-7 in Wairarapa’s favour.

The final between Hutt Valley and Wellington East was a bright, interesting exhibition in which the Hutt Valley girls excelled themselves. The score was: Hutt 17 goals, Wellington 8.

Next year’s tournament is to be held at Dannevirke.
