JULY RAINFALL

HEAVIEST ON RECORD IN CHRISTCHURCH.

BUT LONGER PERIOD TOTAL SHORT OF LAST YEAR.

The rainfall in Christchurch for July was the heaviest on record, totalling 8.54 inches to 9.30 a.m. today. The previous best was 7.937 inches, recorded in December, 1902. Snow was followed in the city by a frost of 5.8 degrees.

Although the year’s ’ rainfall now totals 14.6 inches, it is a long way short of last year’s figure at the same date of 22.67 inches.
