JOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP
WON BY McCARTEN

The Sydney jockeys’ premiership resulted in a win for the former New Zealander. M. McCarten, with 87 wins and two dead-heats. W. Lappin was second with 85 wins and four deadheats and E. McMenamin was third with 84 wins and three dead-heats. Then came D. Munro 74 wins, two dead-heats; E. Bartie 66 wins, three dead-heats.
McCarten and Lappin were equal till the last race at Moorfield, in which McCarten rode the winner. Lappin had no mount.
For years McCarten has been among the leaders at the end of the season, but this is his first win in nineteen seasons in Australia. He is also the first jockey to have been the leading rider in both New Zealand and Australia.
G Price, a former Now Zealander, heads the list of trainers with 29 firsts then follow B. Payton 26 firsts one dead-heat, and C. Russell 25 firsts, one dead-beat: F. Cush, 22 firsts, two deadheats. J. T. Jamieson, with 14 firsts and one dead-heath, was eleventh.
