Some thousands of Republican soldiers are still at. liberty in the Asturias, causing him to keep large forces in all towns throughout the area. Statistics smuggled from Spain reveal that military tribunals in Catalonia in the first week in May tried 347 alleged Republican sympathisers, of whom 266 were sentenced to death and 59 gaoled for 30 years, and 20 to fifteen years' imprisonment.
