ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY

AWARD TO DOCK POLICEMAN. At the meeting of the Port of London Authority on June 22, Constable R. G. Brooke of the P.L.A. Dock Police Force was presented with the Honorary Testimonial on Parchment of the Royal Humane Society by Lord Ritchie. of Dundee, chairman of the Authority.

P. C. Brooke was on duty at (lie Surrey Commercial Docks when he hoard erics for help from the stoker of the floating grain elevator Chicago, who had fallen into the dock between the craft and the quayside. Brooke descended the side of the elevator, locked his loot in a rope ladder and was successful in securing the man by his collar and maintained his hold until help arrived in espoosc to his whistle calls. Hath men were in an exhausted condition when helped ashore. A gratuity of £5 from the L.P.A. was presented with the framed award.
