BOUGHT FOR NAVAL SERVICE.

ANNOUNCEMENT IN HOUSE OF COMMONS.

(British Official Wireless.) 'Received This Day, 10.5 a.m.) RUGBY. July 26.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Navy, Mr G. H. Shakespear, announced in the House of Commons that it had been decided to purchase about SO additional trawlers, to be converted for use in the Royal Navy.

The naval correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph” says that at a cost of £200,000 the Admiralty has purchased 86 modern steam trawlers for use as mine-sweepers and for'.other naval purposes. They will be delivered to 'the Admiralty after their returnr from the fishing grounds. The effect on the fishing industry will be counterbalanced by lifting the existing restrictions regarding landings at Hull and Grimsby enabling the remaining trawlers to work to full capacity.
