ADDRESS-IN-REPLY DEBATE SOME BILLS LAID BEFORE PARLIAMENT. MEAT INSPECTION MEASURE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Members of the House of Representatives were occupied again yesterday with the Address-in-Reply debate. The Deputy-Leader of the Government, Mr Fraser, was in charge in the absence of the Prime Minister, Mr Savage, who was slightly indisposed. Five more contributions were made to the debate, making the total number to date 69.

During the formal business at the beginning of the sitting a petition was presented urging Parliament to reject any proposal to bring business premises within the scope of the Fair Rents Act or any similar restrictive legislation. Several departmental reports were also presented, including that of the Commissioner of Police. Notice was given by the AttorneyGeneral, Mr Mason, of his intention to introduce a Property Law Amendment Bill, Hire Purchase Bill, and Legitimation Bill. A Meat Bill, which deals with the establishment of municipal abattoirs, the inspection of meat for human consumption. and the slaughter of stock and licensing of slaughterhouses, was introduced, read a second time pro forma and referred to the Agricultural and Pastoral Committee. This Bill is substantially the same as the Slaughter of Stock and Inspection of Meat Bill, introduced last session and not proceeded with.

The House adourned at 10.30 p.m. till today.
