MEETING AT RONGOMAI
(“Times-Age” Special.)
The card tournament held by the Rongomai branch of the Womens Division of the Farmers’ Union on Saturday night was well attended and very enjoyable. After the card tournament dancing was kept going till midnight. The winners of the cards were: Ladies, Mrs J. Reid 1. Mrs C. Evans 2. Men: Mr L. Eagle 1, Mr W. Warren 2. Consolation prizes were awarded to Miss G. Evans and Mr F. Evans and novelty prizes to Miss H. Eagle and Mr J. Fulton. The winners on the previous Saturday night’s tournament were: Ladies, Mrs L. Eagle 1, Mrs Hall 2. Men: Mr A. Judd 1, Mr McKenny 2. The novelty prizes went to Mrs L. Eagle and Mr J. Morrison PROGRESS CLUB SUBJECT FOR NEXT DEBATE. The subject for tile next debate to be held by the Eketahuna Progress Club will be, “That Wo Should Boycott Japanese Goods,” and will be held in the Fire Brigade Room on Wednesday, August 21. Tonight, the final W.E.A. lecture on “The Pacific Area and Its Problem” will be given. Personal. Mrs John Davis of Rongomai is making satisfactory progress after her recent operation. MINIATURE RIFLE MATCH WIN FOR HUKANUI. A match between Eketahuna B and Hukanui B teams was fired last night at the Eketahuna range and resulted in a win for Hukanui by 79 points. The highest score was gained by A. G. Hansen (Eketahuna) with a total of 94 out of a possible 100.
GOLF CLUB CONTESTS WHITE CUP PLAYERS. The wet weather during the weekend was responsible for several players defaulting their matches in the White Cup competition. The following players go through to the third round: —J. Tuckett, V. Anderson, D. Fraser, M. Wilson, H. Higginson, H. D. Murray, N. Liardct, H. Walton. The Ladies’ Club owing to the wet weather has postponed the second round of the Southey Cup until next Saturday. The game to have been played at Eketahuna with Pongaroa will be played later in the season. Next Saturday Hamua Golf Club will play Eketahuna at Eketahuna. RED CROSS SOCIETY HOME NURSING CLASSES. The Home Nursing classes held under the auspices of the Eketahuna branch of the Red Cross Society commenced on Tuesday night. There was an attendance of some thirty ladies si. that the success of the class which is under the tuition of Sister Carrick seems assured. SCHOOLS RUGBY SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT. The final of the Bush' Secondary Schools Rugby seven-a-side tournament was played at Pahiatua and was won by the Eketahuna High School A team which defeated Pahiatua High School A by 9 points to nil. Eketahuna has now registered six consecutive wins.
